What is Rice planting festival?
Shinto ritual to pray for rich harvest and rice planting performance by rice-planting maidens which is held on the second Sunday of May every year in the Kita Village of Miyama Town, known as the Thatched Village (kayabuki-no-sato).
After praying for abundant crops at the Hachimangu Shrine by Shinto priest, rice-planting maidens in traditional garments with sedge hats aligned in one line start the rice planting. Enjoy viewing of authentic rural Japan landscape of Thatched Village in vivid green of the Spring foliage.

Miyama Sake factory
Among various kind of sake sold in the shop, "Miyama Tengori" is most recommended which is made from high quality rice and excellent water source in Miyama using traditional sake producing method. If you prefer dry type sake, try tasty flavor of "Oni Koroshi." Also try sake tastings and/or sake warehouse tour (*prior reservation required for tours).

Visit “Furatto Miyama” which has great assortment of products made by local farmers as well as craft items, all of which make great souvenirs. Try gelato and cream puffs made from Miyama Milk at “Miyama no Megumi Milk Studio”. You may need to wait in a long queue, but it’ll be worth it.
