Arrive at Miyoko san’s house
Meet up with Miyoko san at her thatched house.
Miyoko san's family runs a traditinal Japanese restaurant "Kanbee".
It'll take about 5 minutes by car from the Visitor Center.
Make self-introductions each other.
--Message from Miyoko san--
Miyama is a town filled with much charm.
You may find not only beautiful scenery, but also rural culture, special food that can only be found here, and a way of life that brings together the wisdom of our ancestors.
Though I don't speak fluent English, I love to talk and show our lifestyle in Miyama.
I'm looking forward to welcoming you!!

At Kanbee, rice is polished by using a water wheel as a power source.
Rice that is polished for 8 hours without applying heat becomes a very delicious rice.
Let's try your hand at separating the polished rice and bran using a colander. (Nuka-doshi)

View the thatched attic
Take a closer look at the thatched roof from inside of the house.
You can see the thatched roof structure in the attic.
Thatched roofs need to be replaced approximately once every 20 years.
In preparation for the next re-roofing, pampas grass (susuki) and the material for the roof are stored in the attic.

You could try to make rice balls "Onigiri" using white rice polished by a water wheel at her house.
You can purchase various kinds of "Onigiri" at convenience stores but it's more fun to make your own customized "Onigiri" by yourself.
