Shrine of Karasu Dengaku which is designated as the Kyoto Prefectural Intangible Folklore Cultural Property
Founded in 7th century as one of 6 major shrines in Tamba region to enshrine the god of abundant crops and Izanami no Mikoto, the god of safe childbirth. Spring festival is held at around 20th April every year. Main shrine was lost in 1823 by fire and reconstructed in 1846. In the precinct, there are three auxiliary shrines, namely, Kawakami Shrine, Gosha Myojin Shrine and Konpiragu Shrine. Crow Dengaku (ritual music and dancing dedicated to deity god of the shrine) of Kawakami Shrine takes place on the second Sunday of October every year, which is designated as the Kyoto Prefectural Intangible Cultural Property. The big zelkova tree close to the entrance gate is worshipped as the sacred tree and designated as historic precious tree by Kyoto Prefecture.
