Luxury thatched roof “kominka” villa
Spanish and Japanese couple, both professional photographers, acquired this 115-year-old traditional Japanese house with thatched roof in 2019. They designed all the interior and reformed this traditional Japanese rural house into a comfortable and attractive villa, without losing the charm and beauty of the original Japanese architecture of Meiji Period.
The house offers a king size bed with a Tempur mattress for the maximum comfort as well as futons for those who prefer to experience a relaxing sleep on tatami rooms. For the bed or futon, they chose to use soft bedding linen made in Kyoto for good sleep. With a fireplace and a “hori-kotatsu" table, Casa Miyama is a place for chatting countless hours. The house itself still keeps its original thatched roof. Although it is covered with metal in the outside, you can still see the original thatched roof in attic where their photo gallery is located. This is one of the few thatched roof houses in Miyama in which you can see the thatched roof from inside.
Because the house is only for one group per day, you will be able to enjoy the Japanese cypress bathtub as well as the open-air Japanese ceramic bathtub without any other people. The both bathtubs overlook the lighted up Japanese garden and the amazing “Kura”, Japanese traditional warehouse where rice and important things are used to be stored in the old times.
For a fully relaxed stay we strongly recommend travellers to spend two nights if possible. What clients regret the most when they leave is basically that they didn’t book an extra night!
