Homyoji Temple
Fluffy Homyoji Cherry Blossom
Homyoji Temple is a Soto Sect (Zen Buddhism) temple, and its deity is the Twelve-faced Kannon. A highlight of the temple is the cherry tree planted in the 18th century. The tree is a result of a mutation of mountain cherry trees and was named the "Homyoji Cherry Tree" by SANO Touemon (the 15th), a highly respected guardian of cherry trees. The densely bloomed double flowers on the large, old tree are gorgeous. It tends to reach full bloom around April 20th, slightly later than standard cherry trees.
