Rice Planting Festival in Thatched Village (kayabuki-no-sato)
Shinto ritual to pray for rich harvest and rice planting performance by rice-planting maidens which is held on the second Sunday of May every year in the Kita Village of Miyama Town, known as the Thatched Village (kayabuki-no-sato).
After praying for abundant crops at the Hachimangu Shrine by Shinto priest, rice-planting maidens in traditional garments with sedge hats aligned in one line start the rice planting. Enjoy viewing of authentic rural Japan landscape of Thatched Village in vivid green of the Spring foliage. No fees but your donation for the preservation of this intangible cultural property is highly appreciated.
One day direct bus tour from Kyoto Station is available on this day.
